Transitioning into the field of nursing is not easy. Today I received this email from a new graduate nurse I once gave advice. She wrote:
Good Afternoon Ms.Natalia,
How are you ? I hope you haven’t forgotten me already! I just wanted to give you an update on my journey as a RN. So far being a Nurse has been very challenging. I’m having difficulties inserting IV’s and drawing blood, but that’s the least of my worries. As far as my nursing skills, I have learned how to my implement everything I learned in school into my practice.
My coworkers aren’t so friendly and as times I feel alone. But I enjoy communicating with my patients and I LOVE being a nurse. My experience so far is only creating a tough skin for me.
I have taken your advice by reflecting on my day, and how did I implement my nursing care for my patients’ diagnose.
I hope to hear from you soon!
I immediately responded to this new nurse but I can’t help imagine the number of nurses who are in need of help as they transition into the real world. Mentorship and guidance is key as you acclimate to the work environment.
