Being a nurse comes with many responsibilities. One aspect I love about nursing is caring for friends and family. Don’t forget those who matter the most to you. It’s so important to make sure friends and families get annual check-ups. As a Christmas gift to my friends and family one year I did blood pressure screenings.
There are small things you can do to make a big difference in some else’s life. Reminding others to take their medications, explaining medications and providing a referral to your friends and family can help them lead a healthy life. My mother once asked my why she was taking Sodium (since she eats salt) and Potassium (since she eats bananas). As healthcare providers, we assume everyone understands electrolytes, automatically “get it” in terms of their health, take medications and follow provider instructions but that is far from the truth. It is important to explain the mechanism in which medications work. You will be surprised to see the number of people in your social circle that can use nursing care. Share your knowledge to those you love.
